You’ll enjoy listening to the unique humour and creativity of this Danish street artist.
Thomas Dambo and his crew from Copenhagen make sculptures and installations out of 'trash' materials they find the city dumpsters. His work hopes to inspire people to think of trash as a resource.
Waste and landfills are mostly seen in a negative light, as the shadow side of a self-indulgent society. To see waste as an opportunity and a place for growth, requires reframing how you see the world and what really matters. With a little imagination and creative energy it’s possible to reform waste into artistic sculptures that can set our imaginations on fire.
It’s also an opportunity to rethink how we design. Imagine a world where everything is designed for the long term; either its easy to repair or cheap to recycle. And the manufacturer willingly takes responsibilty for recycling all the products they make. We take accountability for the consequences of our actions.
This means shifting from seeing ourselves as separated from others and the world, to seeing how we are part of a greater integrated whole. Where our thoughts, feelings and actions affect not only us, but also those around us.
So take a moment and think about…where in your practice and in your personal life can you commit to making a little change in this direction?
